Yellowstone’s 1930s used tour bus is for sale and it’s possibly the perfect cross country road trip vehicle we’ve seen in 2017.
Let’s face it, few things scream “road trip” louder than retro National Parks memorabilia. Whether you’re a collector, or you’re just suffering from acute wanderlust, we’ve found what promises to be the best bit of road trip gear. This 1937 Yellowstone used tour bus for sale is going to hit the auction block in early October, and it’s a beauty.
In the earlier days of our National Parks, privately run tour companies like the Yellowstone Park Transportation Company shuttled eager tourists around the park. In fact, founder/President of the Yellowstone Park Transportation Company Harry W. Child is one of the people who crafted Yellowstone’s reputation as a must-visit destination. He’s also responsible for a lot of the roads and infrastructure in the park. And, we have Child to thank for the Old Faithful Inn, an absolute stunner of a log cabin hotel, and one of the prettiest places to stay on a trip to Yellowstone or just Wyoming in general.
The bus for sale is from Yellowstone Park Transportation Company. The last generation of bus that the White Company made for YPTC was model 706. That’s the model here. It was designed by the legendary automotive stylist Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky, and the coolest feature is the open air roof. Because of this, tourists had almost panoramic views of the breathtaking beauty of Yellowstone from the top! And, don’t worry, it has a canvas cover for bad weather.
The nitty gritty on the Yellowstone tour bus for sale
If you’re starting to fall in love with this used tour bus, but don’t know how to care for a 1930s vehicle, worry not. According to the description, it’s fully updated, in great condition, and ready to hit the road. It seems like you won’t find a better-kept cross country road trip vehicle for sale. At least, not anytime soon, anyway.
The bus offered here, Yellowstone Park no. 402, has been subtly modified for more user-friendly, reliable road use, including the installation of a 300-cubic inch Ford inline six-cylinder engine and automatic transmission, as well as power steering, a 1995 Ford F450 master cylinder with power brake booster, 12-volt electrical system, an electric fuel pump, and Autometer instruments. It can easily be driven on modern streets and highways, making it the ideal vehicle for transporting friends and families on special occasions.
Hell yeah! It’s up for auction in Hershey on October 5-6. But, I have a sneaking suspicion that this gem won’t have a hard time finding a new owner. It’s seriously just too badass to pass up! Personally, I want to use it as my own van life vehicle. How perfect would that be?
