The only thing better than a spring weekend in a cozy mountain cabin might be a free spring weekend in a cozy mountain cabin… and West Virginia’s Ace Adventure Resort is making just that offer to anyone, but there’s a tiny catch. All you have to do is put in a little “sweat equity”!
By “sweat equity”, they actually mean “help clean out the trails for the season”, which still makes the deal a pretty sweet gig. The resort has an extensive network of trails along the New River Gorge, which means that you’ll get to enjoy some stellar views while you check up on the pathways. The weekend set aside for this is April 21-23, and you’ll only be working from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Sunday. That means you’ll have Friday night, Saturday night, and most of Sunday to enjoy the tricked-out cabins, which include free rental mountain bikes and private hot tubs. They even provide lunch on Saturday! All you have to do to reserve a spot is call 800-787-3982. They’ll refund your fee for the weekend after you’ve completed the work.
Even if you’re busy that weekend, the Ace Adventure Resort is an awesome destination for a summer getaway. They started off as a whitewater rafting outfitter but grew to open a resort that offers kayaking, paddle boarding, mountain biking, horseback riding, climbing, and rappelling, in addition to rafting. Adventure Lake is their private pond in the woods that’s been turned into an outdoor waterpark, with slides, ziplines, and other inflatable toys, along with a beach for lounging and playing volleyball. Their ziplines through the forest are also a blast– it’s a truly unforgettable view of the New River Gorge, and for a slightly different take on the zipline canopy tour, try doing it at night! ACE also has mud obstacle courses, a paintball field, disc golf, and a 5-story ropes tower for you to conquer. It’s seriously just like being back at camp. At night, they have a full bar, live music, bonfires, and more!
