Thrill-seekers have no shortage of theme parks with insane rollercoasters to tackle in LA, but if you hadn’t been considering Knott’s Berry Farm as a place to get your adrenaline rush, think again. They just announced their newest ride for 2018, and it looks downright nuts. It’s called HangTime, and it might become the most epic ride on the West Coast.

Don’t be fooled by the kitschy surfing theme of HangTime, this thing is a monster. It promises “gravity-defying inversions, mid-air suspensions and twisting dive tracks”… and that’s just the beginning of the rush. The ride’s crown jewel is its totally vertical lift hill into a raised 96-degree drop. That’s the steepest drop in California. Once you hit the peak of the hill, the ride will pause at a 60-degree angle, giving the “disappearing track” illusion.

Then, once the suspense has been sufficiently built, the ride throws the beyond-vertical drop at you. After the drop, it’s basically nonstop loops and corkscrews the rest of the way out. It’s also the second ride in the Western hemisphere to include a negative g-stall loop. Basically, what all of that fancy technical talk boils down to is that the loop gives you the sensation of floating.

Since this is replacing the beloved Boomerang rollercoast and two of the park’s other roller coasters, Montezooma’s Revenge and the Xcelerator, were closed at the end of 2017 with no word on whether or not they’ll reopen, HangTime will be a welcome thrill to parkgoers looking for something really unforgettable.
