For some, camping is a reckoning between man and nature. For others, it’s an excuse to drink beer around a campfire. And now, craft brewing icon Dogfish Head has created the perfect product for both kinds of campers! The beer, called “It’s The End of the Wort As We Know It”, is actually designed to be a doomsday prepper’s dream bug-out brew.

A true survivalist kit, It’s The End of the Wort As We Know It is hand-packaged in a 750ml bottle and includes all the necessities to ‘potentially’ outlast the apocalypse (beer included, obviously). You’ll find a limited-edition Dogfish branded Swiss army knife tied to the neck of the bottle which will aid in opening your beer bottle or whittling a fishing spear to capture a conch for dinner. The bottle itself comes snuggly wrapped in a big ‘ol solar blanket you can use to protect your beer … er, body from changes in the weather. And lastly, you’ll find a length of paracord securing the blanket to the bottle which just might come in handy if you need to make a tourniquet, or if you accidently drop your survival beer in quicksand and need to quickly jump in to heroically retrieve it. Safety first, beer recovering second (or maybe it’s the other way around). –Dogfish Head

So basically, you’ll just want to keep this in the trunk of your car, just in case. If you’re thinking that the kit is missing meal replacement powder, hold up, because we haven’t even talked about the beer itself yet. It’s a Belgian-style fruit ale (clocking in at 9% ABV) that’s been brewed to have loads of “essential amino acids, micronutrients, and vitamins.” With “blueberries, acai and goji berries, along with an assortment of ingredients that includes purple sweet potatoes, rose hips, chia seeds, flax seed, spelt, oats and quinoa” added, it’s a beer that’s a bona fide triple threat. It tastes good, is good for you, and makes you feel good!

Getting a bottle of the beer is another story. They’ve only made 200 kits, and with a price tag of $45, it’s definitely not for everyone. If you do want a bottle for your nuclear fallout shelter or next camping trip, they’re being released at 11 am on January 27th at the Delaware-based brewery’s Milton taproom.
