It doesn’t get any more epic than a flying car… but sadly, a really good version is still years off. Fortunately, WaterCar is giving us sleek boat-car hybrids that we can play with in the meantime! The company started in 1999 with the goal of creating the world’s fastest amphibious vehicle. In 2010, they reached their goal by setting a Guinness World Record for amphibious speed with their Python car. After that, they buckled down to focus on designing a WaterCar that they could offer to the public. It’s finally available, and it looks pretty wild.
They call this model the Panther. It’s made with off-the-shelf components, and each Panther is custom made. They average about 45 MPH on the water. although one vehicle for sale, which they call “The Most Badass WaterCar Panther Ever Built” boasts a GM 6.2 Liter LS3 V8 Stroker Engine and higher speed capabilities. They range in price from $110,000 to $155,000 a pop, with the exception of the “badass” version; that one is priced out at $225,000. Or you can work with them and have WaterCar make something that fits your wants and needs, since they’re all custom-built.
WaterCar also sees the value of an amphibious vehicle outside of the personal space. They make a model that functions as a fire-fighting vessel as well. The Coast Guard-approved creation lets you speed from land to water, and then pump 1,050 Gallons per minute to put out a fire. They call it the Rapid Response Amphibious Vehicle. So, to anyone who thinks that a speedboat car is a frivolous toy, WaterCars are actually saving lives… and looking really freakin’ cool while doing it.
