The perfect campsite is out there. One that’s secluded, but still has tons of amenities; is in a beautiful location, but isn’t too popular; is comfy, but doesn’t take away from the fact that camping is a time to reconnect with nature. And we know where to find it. Goblin Valley camping at these yurts, tucked away among the red rocks of the Southwestern desert, are as perfect as they come.
You’d be hard-pressed to find a camping experience more perfect than the yurts located in Utah’s Goblin Valley State Park. Their locations, tucked away among the nooks and crannies of the rocks, give them much-needed shade and seclusion. It really adds to the feeling that you’re camping out on Mars, far away from the worries of everyday life. There are two in the park, both equipped with AC and heat (the desert gets chilly at night) and with a double bed, a twin bunked on that, and a futon, it can sleep up to five happy campers. There’s even a deck with chairs and a grill that you can use to cook up some dinner after a long day of hiking and exploring! You can find all of the details (and how to reserve one!) here.
Beyond Goblin Valley camping
Goblin Valley has a lot going for it beyond the yurts, too. Obviously, it’s best-known for its goblins, which are sandstone hoodoos, formed by centuries of erosion. The landscape is unbelievably dramatic and utterly unique. It’s also home to Native American petroglyphs, gemstones like geodes, agate, and jasper, slot canyons, and stellar bouldering and rock scrambling. And, we’re not the only ones who think this place feels like another world entirely… it was used as a filmed location for the movie Galaxy Quest!
