If you’re pregnant and you don’t have a birth plan yet, allow me, an idiot who has never given birth but who loves free things, to make a suggestion: plan to give birth at your favorite attraction or restaurant… odds are, they might give you (or your new bundle of joy) perks fo’ life.
Last week, a woman gave birth to a son in a bathroom at Six Flags Over Georgia, earning the pair free lifetime Diamond Elite Memberships. She was there with her daughter when she went into labor, and wound up giving birth at the Hurricane Harbor first aid facility. The Diamond Elite Memberships are the top tier of Six Flags pass, allowing the holder free admission to any Six Flags park, along with preferred parking and deep discounts on merch and food.
And that’s hardly the only time an unexpected birth has resulted in perks. A few weeks ago, a San Antonio couple who were on the way to the hospital to give birth stopped at a Chick-Fil-A to drop their kids off to a family friend, and the expectant mother had to deliver her new baby in the bathroom. The Chick-Fil-A was actually closed, but the manager opened up the store so the woman could use the restroom, where she eventually wound up giving birth to the baby girl, assisted by her husband. In addition to the birth certificate officially stating that the child was born in a Chick-Fil-A (which I think is cool), the chicken chain has promised that the new baby will get free Chick-Fil-A for life (once she can eat solid food, presumably) and is guaranteed a job opportunity once she turns 16.
And if you’re not so hot on chicken tenders or roller coasters, you can always try giving birth on an airplane. In 2017, a baby girl was born on a Jet Airways flight from Saudi Arabia to India, and the full-service international Indian airline reportedly gave the baby free flights for life.
Unfortunately, places don’t really like to publicize that they’ll give you free things if you give birth there (probably because they would prefer that women have their kids in places equipped to handle live births), so it’s a bit of a gamble. But hey… even if the restaurant or theme park where you give birth doesn’t offer you perks, you’ll still get a fun story out of it.
On the serious, here are a few other hacks…
